Garden landscape updates - May 2012

My little garden critters.

River rock and stepping stones (weed blocker) used so  the
"Garden Fairy" doesn't have to walk in mud while weeding/watering.

Rock and stones added all along house and garage area.

Mr. Turtle in place.

Couple of blooms from the paito hibiscus.
Mr. Turtle on the move across our property.
Just passing through and thought he deserved a mini break.

The "Run away peacock" on Lee Road I attempted to corral with
two  ladies from the local veterinarian office , but he got away and crossed Lee Road safely anyway.
I assumed he made it back home that night.  It was so beautiful and fast.

May 16, 2012 - updates

Master bedroom .... done! (with regards to decor)

Added window valance  and decor above window.

Office.....done!

Guest bath redone with new shower, window curtains and rugs.  Floral arrangement designed by yours truly.

Temporary bed set redo and curtains hung for now.

Sunroom woven blinds hung.....loving them so much!

While Gigi visited in San Diego Rocky redesigned the property entrance.  (That's between his coffee time and his country boy outings with his northshore buds)

Along with painting the concete walkway we added stones left over from the
house in hopes to dress up our entry way.

Current patio status for now.  We're taking a break before attempting to start the outdoor kitchen cover.  However, we've used it a few times and love our outdoor area/kitchen.  Work in progress!

March 28, 2012 - Painted walkway & started landscaping

Decided to paint the new entry walkway to coordinate with the existing tile at the front door.

We plan to add some stones along the sides of the walkway (same stones as on front of house).

Second day working on the landscaping.  14 cu. yds of garden soil delivered Tuesday morning and planted what plants we had today.  Have more plants to purchases and lots of mulching.  We seeded the lawn just area immediately around the house, just starting to see very small patches here and there.

Looking for a couple of ornamental evergreen trees to use on each corner of the house.
Agapanthus (Blue Lily of the Nile)

The empty corner space is for the pending fountain.  My Louisiana Iris plants still in pots until the fountain is down and secure.

Work in progress.  Need to fill in on the side of the guest bath/bedroom (shady area along side of house).
Veggie garden is producing.....yeah!  Our first Creole tomatoes.

March 19, 2012 - Patio pavers finished

312 pavers @ 33lbs each makes for muscle aches, but so happy they are all down.

Outdoor kitchen finally moved on to it's permanent site and
hooked up to gas, water & electric.

Covered Pergola in the plans.
Red Headed Woodpecker posing for a photo.  He was sitting just a couple feet from the edge of our extended patio.

Feb 21, 2012 - Expanding patio & planting a garden

Back patio area prior to grading

Phase 1 of entending our patio with pavers.  More sand required, just waiting for a few rain free days.

Phase 1 after serious rain on Saturday.

Phase 1 of the Daleo garden.  Rocky planted 4 blueberry trees.

Purchased 2 creole tomato plants and 1 bell pepper.  Rock has a lot more work to do with
the soil before these little guys are planted.

Rocky starting to fertilize a few pecan trees.  Curious to see when we'll actually get a good crop of pecans.  There are approximately 35-40 pecan trees on the property planted by the previous owner.  Unfortunately he hadn't ferterized the trees for a long time.

February 2012

February 10, 2012-    Since our last post in November we've added cement walkway and                     driveway slab connected to the garage.  This week we've had final grating done, top soil and driveway rocks added.

View from front door looking down driveway.
We had the entrance walkway and garage pad poured in December.

An Eastern Bluebird peeking in the LSU pad.
Our new little friend strikes a pose.
Redbird's wondering where's my house?
One of three Fox Squirrels that hang out with us all the time.
Japanese Magnolia's all in bloom.

A friend's new colt, just had to share...so cute.
